Medical Waste Forces Closures At Maryland Beaches & Parks

Several parks and beaches in Maryland and Delaware, including Ocean City and Dewey Beach, have been closed after medical waste washed ashore. Authorities warn the debris poses a hazard to swimmers, with rough seas adding to safety concerns.

Ocean City Emergency Services Director Joe Theobald emphasized the seriousness of the situation and is working with the Worcester County Health Department to identify the source. Meanwhile, Assateague State Park has also closed for swimming due to the waste.

Beachgoers are advised to wear shoes and avoid the ocean until the debris is cleared. The exact nature and origin of the waste are still under investigation.
