Russ Parr

Russ Parr’s career has evolved from a stand-up comedian to recording artist to a top-rated, nationally-syndicated radio host, heard weekdays by 3.2 million listeners in 25 cities across America and now….to independent filmmaker.

He’s opened for the legendary comedienne Joan Rivers and avoided bombing on stage, thanks to the laughter of friends and family. Russ credits his work as a comedian for developing his comedic timing as well as the many character voices – such as Magic Man, Burner, Mickey Mouse, Ali, and Bobby Jimmy – that have led to his success in radio.

Russ landed his own morning show on 1580 KDAY, the first 24-hour, all hip hop station in the country. He used his platform on the airwaves to address gang violence and used the station studios and airwaves to provide gang intervention.  He realized that urban radio not only needed to be funny and uplifting, but it also had a responsibility to the black community to be informative.

While at KDAY, Russ launched his own independent record label, Rapsur Records, Russ Parr spelled backward.  He recorded a parody song, called “We Like Ugly Women,” as one of his popular characters “Bobby Jimmy.” The record was a hit.

Other hit parodies followed and he later signed with rapper Eazy-E’s label, Ruthless Records.  He recorded several EPs produced by Dr. Dre and DJ Pooh.  Russ recorded the hit singles “Big Butt,” “Roaches” and “Hair or Weave.”  He performed his hit parodies in live shows alongside his label-mates Ice Cube, DJ Yella, MC Ren, World Class Wreckin’ Cru, Michel’le and Yo-Yo.

Eventually, Russ left Los Angeles for Dallas – taking over the morning show slot on 100.3 Jamz/ KJMZ-FM. While in Dallas, Russ created, wrote, and produced FLAVA TV, and starred in the show alongside his morning show sidekick, Afredas. He later sold the show FLAVA TV, which still airs and is hosted by Skip Cheatum.  Other forays into television include commercials for major clients like McDonald’s, where he was the original “Big Mac Man“ and later, the dating/game show “Get The Hook Up,”  which aired on TV One.
Russ was later offered the position as the morning show host at 93.9 WKYS in Washington, DC, two years later, the nationally-syndicated Russ Parr Morning Show was born and has been syndicated for over 14 years.

With Uptoparr Productions, Inc. in conjunction with Swirl Films, Parr has written, produced and directed four other films including: The Last Stand (2006), Something Like a Business (2010), Love For Sale (2008) and 35 and Ticking (2011), currently airing on BET, TV One and Showtime and available on DVD.

Russ Parr’s wife and children are paramount in his life. His devotion to his family is paralleled only by his commitment to his listeners and community issues. Though many strive to be #1, few actually make to the top. As he reaches the pinnacle of his award-winning career, it’s clear that Russ Parr has worked hard to get where he is!

Alfredas

The youngest of 4 girls, Alfredas grew up in the heart of the Oak Cliff, Texas. More Libra than Virgo, Alfredas celebrates her birthday on September 22nd–no cards please, just jewelry.

Alfredas has been in tons of national commercials and print ads for everything from J.C. Penny to Coca-Cola.  She can also be seen in several movies including some you may have actually seen like ‘Miss Congeniality’ and Serving Sarah. Your kids might even be playing a video game with a voice that sounds distinctly familiar. Although she’s done more acting than many actors, she doesn’t consider herself an actress. She’s a broadcaster through and through.

Alfredas began her broadcasting career as an intern for FOX TV in Dallas. Bored out of her mind with the long hours and mundane tasks, she decided to give radio a try. While doing college radio – she was also getting her feet wet in real radio, working on The Russ Parr Morning Show in Dallas. ‘Working’ might not be the appropriate word. She was more like the unpaid gopher, responsible for immensely essential duties such as getting coffee, making Micky D runs, and answering request lines. Soon an entertainment reporting position became open and with her quick wit and entertaining but realistic attitude, Alfredas was offered the job. The 21 year old was now co-host and entertainment reporter for the Russ Parr Morning Show, which led to successful stints as co-host on local TV shows 21 Texas Jamz and Flava TV.  After holding it down in Dallas for over 5 years with great ratings success, Alfredas decided it was time for a change…actually the powers-that-be decided to change the format, so Alfredas decided to change cities.

It was off to DC to work in radio.  Though she loved the experience, Alfredas had other things on her mind. You know, the usual have-babies-get-married thing. Well, let’s just say the baby thing worked out great. But again bored out of her mind (or maybe crazed for adult companionship) she thought she’d give television another try. Cast as the entertainment reporter for a regional weekend television show called Nettalklive, she was back in business. It wasn’t long before radio came calling. Alfredas became the “hardest working woman in showbiz”, taking a morning co-host and news reporting position at KPTY FM in Phoenix, AZ and flying back to Dallas every weekend to report on Nettalklive. Alfredas was living her dream of doing both TV and radio, but the traveling was getting old, not to mention her radio contract was up, so it was back to the Lone Star State. By now Nettalklive was nationally syndicated by Belo as well as other syndicates, and Alfredas was promoted to host, writer and producer of the show. There was but one thing missing…radio, but not for long.

Alfredas’ long time friend and mentor was suddenly back in Dallas with a syndicated morning show and he needed a newsperson. Alfredas soon became the news director and anchor for KBFB FM in Dallas. In the meantime after 5 years, Nettalklive came to an end, as did Alfredas position as news director. She decided to pack up and go north to take a position as the entertainment reporter for the nationally syndicated Russ Parr Morning Show. There was but one thing missing…television, but not for long. Alfredas now hosts travel and gardening tips on TV One and is also co-host of the networks dating game show, Get The Hook Up.

Alfredas stays busy with her career, husband and 2 boys but still manages to make time to be an active member of her community. Drawing on her soft spot for senior citizens and animals, she and her family are regulars at the senior citizen assisted living facility in her community (where her 11 year old TJ is a hit!), and the whole family (yes, even 2 year old Jared) volunteer with local animal rescue and adoption centers.

Albert “Sumbody Trippin”

ALBERT aka “SumbodyTrippin” is a native Washingtonian. He is an alumni of The University of Maryland – College Park and Connecticut School of Broadcasting. Albert landed in the field of radio by first Interning with The Russ Parr Morning Show and being a Board Operator for Radio One’s Washington DC. Albert is know for his crazy laugh which you hear in the background .Albert was brought on the RPMS team in 2007 as a producer for the lowest rated show in the country.

Vic Jagger is a longtime radio host, multimedia personality, producer, & entrepreneur from Washington, DC. Off the radio airwaves, Vic made numerous appearances on TV One’s “NewsOne Now w/ Roland Martin”, hosted NBC4’s weekly segment “The Tuesday Trend”, and co-hosted the weekly podcast “There I Said It” on YEA Networks. Currently, she is the co-host and executive producer of the SEASON’D podcast. Her creative talents expand to writing, audio/digital production, and entrepreneurship w/ her small batch candle studio – Private Suite Collection®.

Vic is an alumnus of the University of the District of Columbia and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Media Arts with a concentration in TV Production. She is also a lovely lady of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Donnie Simpson is the ruling Washington DC radio icon as well as a television and movie personality. He hosted The Donnie Simpson Morning Show in Morning Drive for over 17 years. He was Billboard’s “1998 Air Personality of the Year”. He is also known by the nickname “Dr. Green Eyes” for his luminous light green eyes.

Simpson began his career at age 15 at WJLB in Detroit, where he remained for eight years. In 1977 he relocated to Washington DC, where he began working at WRC-FM, known as “Disco 93.9“, now WKYS, as morning drive host and program director. Donnie’s star shone brightly as he maintained an incredible run of success on top of the Ratings throughout his tenure in Morning Drive Radio. No stranger to Radio One it’s an incredible honor to have a living legend back on the airwaves at WMMJ!

Tony Perkins has been a radio and TV broadcaster for 30 years. A two-time Emmy award winner, he was the weatherman and feature reporter for ABC’s “Good Morning America” for seven years, and has most recently been a main anchor (and formerly a weatherman) for Fox 5 in Washington, D.C., for fourteen years. He was a professional stand-up comedian in the ’80s and ’90s and was Donnie Simpson’s sidekick and producer on the number-one-rated morning show for seven years at WKYS-FM. He reunited with Donnie in 2018 to co-host “The Donnie Simpson Show” on Radio One’s MAJIC 102.3/92.7, weekday afternoons from 3 to 7pm.

In addition to his time on “Good Morning America”, Tony has appeared nationally on television on “Jimmy Kimmel Live”, the “American Music Awards”, and many other shows.

He is also a sought-after host and emcee for a wide variety of events and fundraisers across the Washington area.
