Sarah Cummins found humility in making the difficult decision to call off her wedding to her fiancé, leaving her with a $30,000 catered event and no attendees.

With only a week until the big day and the Ritz Charles in Carmel, Indiana having a non-refundable contract for 170 guests, Cummins decided rather than throw away for food, she gave it to the homeless.

According to the Washington Post, Cummins said she decided that rather than throw away the food she would bring some purpose to the event and contacted area homeless shelters. She cheerfully greeted and welcomed her guests when they arrived Saturday.

Several local businesses and residents donated suits, dresses and other items for the guests to wear. Cummins also arranged for the guests to be shuttled to and from the event.

The 25 year old Purdue pharmacy student still has no idea what she’ll do with her wedding dress. Her fiancé Logan Araujo footed most of the bill and agreed that Cummins’ idea was a selfless way to handle the situation.

Talk about taking lemons and making lemonade.
