Five years since the first episode of her hit YouTube series hit the net, Issa Rae is finally back to serve fans with more awkward Black excellence. This time, Rae is taking over the television screen with HBO’s aid. Insecure, which was co-written and executive produced by funny man Larry Wilmore, is slated to debut this fall.

The show essentially picks up where The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl left off, chronicling an everyday Black woman facing everyday Black woman problems. In one part of the trailer, Rae stands before a classroom as one student asks: “Why you talk like a white girl?”

It took a while before Rae found a network that understood her vision. She told Vulture in 2011“After meeting with a couple different executives in television, and seeing our visions don’t really align, I don’t want to sell my life to it now.” And then she had a meeting with someone who got it. “Everything we were against, he was for,” she continued. “It was just one meeting, but for me, that was all I needed to realize we’re in the right space.”
