Did you know a predominately black college won a NCAA Championship?

In 1971, Howard University defeated powerhouse St. Louis University for the 1971 NCAA Soccer national championship making them int first HBCU to win a major collegiate title. However, because of minor violations, the title was taken away. ESPN along with Spike Lee takes a look at the the legendary team and it’s rise of HU Soccer, it’s fall and recovery which lead to the most dominate Soccer season in collegiate history and the 1974 NCAA Championship.

Redemption Song” is directed by Kenan K. Holley for “Spike Lee’s Lil’ Joints” and features commentary by former HU Soccer coach Lincoln Phillips, former boxing promoter, HU Grad and radio host Rock Newman and more.
