Actress Tika Sumpter is about to add First Lady to her resume. The Haves and The Have Nots star has been cast as Michelle Obama in the upcoming film, Southside With You. The film focuses on the start of the Obamas’ romance during a summer afternoon in 1989. The movie will center on the young couple’s first date, where the pair visited the Art Institute of Chicago, took a stroll around the Windy City and saw a then up and coming Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing. The couple met when the then Harvard first year law student Obama landed a job as a summer associate at the Chicago law firm, Sidley Austin, where he met legal maverick Michelle Robinson. The smitten Obama wooed Robinson, who was his boss at the time,  where the two went on to get married in 1992. According to Deadline, casting is underway for an actor to play the younger Obama.

Sumpter will also pull double duty on movie as executive producer alongside director Richard Tanne (The Roman), who wrote the script. The project came to light after the duo developed the idea together. Stephanie Allain (Dear White People)and Tracey Bing have also signed to produce the movie for Allain’s Homegrown Pictures. Filming is set to go underway in July and shoot on location in Chicago.
