Tameka “Tiny” Harris, wife of Hip-Hop mogul and artist, Clifford “T.I.” Harris, has permanently changed her eye color to ice-gray and shared the news on her Instagram page.

I permanently changed my eye color with Brightocular and loving it! Thank you Dr. Montasser Menif for the amazing experience and for making my dream come true. I hated wearing contacts just for the color and it made my vision blurry. Blessed to say my vision is perfect after my ice-gray implants.

Special thanks to #Spencer Vessa for all that you’ve done to make the process happen. You’re amazing and thank you #faiza for your exceptional customer service.

The reactions on social media were swift and swung from one end of the spectrum to the other, with some people claiming the eye color change was a sign of self-hate and others supporting the reality television’s star right to make her own beauty choices free from judgement.

According to Brightocular’s About Us page:

An artificial iris is a thin, flexible, non-toxic prosthesis which is compatible with body tissue. Artificial iris is made of materials that are used in manufacturing intraocular lenses. For years, these lenses have been placed in the patients’ eyes (e.g., after cataract surgery); therefore, they are made of safe and biocompatible materials.”

The BrightOcular procedure is ambulatory, short, safe, and painless. It is performed under topical anesthesia and takes about 15 minutes for each eye. Since the implant is flexible it can be folded and inserted into the eye through a peripheral corneal surgical incision about 2.8 mm long. No corneal sutures are needed for this length of the incision. Anterior chamber intraocular lens implantation and phakic IOL implantation are performed worldwide for years and are also FDA approved techniques (ICL, Cataract Extraction).

Though Tiny hasn’t responded directly to the media frenzy her gray eyes have sparked, she retweeted the following:
