Love They Neighbor is back on OWN, airing on at Wednesdays at 9 p.m. The Tyler Perry created comedy translated several characters from his stage plays including the ever-popular Mama Hattie, played by actress Patrice Lovely. So what’s going on this season? Let’s ask Mama Hattie.

I’m so happy to be a part of this production, I don’t know what to do. We got a whole lot of good things poppin’ this season and we just want to encourage everyone to continue watching. [This season] I’m trying to get Linda out of my house. We’re focused on trying to find her love and yeah, she’s been hurt so much and she’s confused.

She just don’t know which way to turn, she’s in a love triangle with her boyfriend Will and she has a crush on Phillip so she has no idea what it is she needs to do. If I got anything to do with it, I’m going to be the one to help her out and help her get out. I’ve always believed in every man for himself and God for us all. It’s time for her to get her own sexy situation because I need to get mine back.”

As for Lovely, she says things are just fine in her personal life. The characters she plays on Love Thy Neighbor is very dear to her as it comes from a familiar place.

“It’s my mom, it’s my grandmom,” Lovely says. “I grew up with these people and it’s my everyday life. My grandmother, my aunt, my mom, it’s easy for me to do. I’ve been doing this character for about 15 years.”

The actress was discovered by Perry, while appearing in a play in Detroit. She owes the introduction to House of Payne star Allen Payne who recommended her to Perry.

“For him to come out and see that character, he said he’d never seen someone who stays in character that long. Obviously, he watched me when I even walked out behind stage so he was like I got something for you. I never thought it would be this big. It’s a blessing.”

Lovely says one advantage to her role is that it preserves her anonymity.

“That’s the best thing. In my normal daily activities, nobody has any idea who I am. We’re doing a spa thing and nobody know who I was [until they saw the other actors on the show].”
