Fans of the popular television show “Soul Train” better start polishing their dancing shoes. “Variety” reports that a feature film based on the show is currently in development. Set in the 1980s, the movie will revolve around a character named “Protag” who is a talented “popper” looking to earn his way on the “Soul Train Tour.” Porter/Geller Productions along with longtime “Soul Train” host Don Cornelius will produce the film. Writer Malcolm Spellman will tackle the script. Spellman tells “Variety,” quote, “All of the Hip-Hop street dances you see today were born during that time period and were first seen on that show, and I remember doing all of them when I was a kid.” A release date for the “Soul Train” movie has yet to be announced.”Soul Train” made its debut in August of 1970. The show ran for 35 seasons, producing more than eleven-hundred episodes during its run.
