(Washington, DC)  —  President Obama says harmful levels of radiation from Japan are not expected to reach Hawaii, Alaska or the U.S. mainland.  During a White House announcement, he added that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are not recommending any precautionary measures beyond staying informed.  There has been a run on potassium iodide pills due to concern about the possibility of radiation from the Japanese nuclear crisis reaching the U.S.  President Obama says the U.S. is committing all available resources to monitor the nuclear crisis in Japan and keep American citizens out of harm’s way.  He cited an unimaginable toll of death and destruction after the devastating recent earthquake and tsunami.  He said U.S. nuclear experts will conduct a comprehensive review of American nuclear facilities.
