Missouri high school superintendent has issued an apology after a video of his white students turning their backs to a predominately Black basketball team went viral. The footage even shows some people in the crowd holding a Trump sign.

According to KSHB NewsSuperintendent Dr. Scott Patrick said the political overtones of the treatment his Warrensburg High students’ gave to Center High School players was over the top

Where it went over the line is when they held up the [Trump] sign,” Patrick said. “There’s no reason for that to occur at a basketball game so they just took it too far and it was insensitive and not appropriate.

He added: “I was disturbed by the video. It was obviously inappropriate conduct on the behalf of a small number of our students. So that upset me. From the very beginning, we regretted that it happened and I apologize on behalf of our students and our school for the incident.

However, Patrick stopped at calling the actions racist, a belief that others share.

It just seems like an immature thing to do. It seems like they are trying to piss us off. I don’t think they are really trying to say anything other than that. Just seems like, I don’t know a way to aggravate us,” one student told KSHB.

But the woman who shot the footage is clear that race motivated the incident.

I was like wow. You guys are playing an all-black basketball team and you’re all white and it’s just, you turned around, hold up a trump sign and I thought it was very racist,” said 20- year-old Center High graduate Antonia Nunn. “It was rude. I didn’t like it at all. It wasn’t ok.

Racially motivated incidents like this one isn’t new or rare since Trump was elected. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, since Nov 9 there have been over 1000 reported hate crimes or acts of intimidation.

Sadly, this is Trump’s America.
