The theme for this years’ Met Gala will be Fashion in an Age Of Technology. Every year, there is a coinciding exhibition. Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology will focus on the dichotomy between haute couture and machine-made fashion (hello 3D printing).
Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute, explained,
“Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made. But recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other.”
The exhibit will have more than 100 pieces of haute couture and ready-to-wear. In addition, they will also have several “in process” workshops showing viewers designs using technology, like 3D printing, taking shape.
Anna Wintour stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers to discuss The First Monday in May, a new documentary about putting The Met Gala together. She revealed who she has sitting at her table. “This year I have sat myself next to Tim Cook and Idris Elba, so I think I’m going to have a lot of fun.”
Oh to be at THAT table!
Anna also reveals getting lost after the Yeezus 3 presentation at Madison Square Garden, which she referenced Kanye’s line as “migrant chic.” Anna got lost in the basement of Madison Square Garden after trying to sneak out after Jay-Z. She admits to ending up in tears of frustration, but remembers the kind security guard (who happened to be her son’s former baseball coach), helping her to the exit.
The Met Gala will take place on Monday, May 2nd, 2016.
