Ava DuVernay and David Oyelowo brought Black excellence of the red carpet of the Berlinale Festival and Ireland, proving Black films can do well overseas. In case you don’t recall, an e-mail leaked during the Sony hacks revealed a producer telling Michael Lynton, Sony chairman:

“I am not saying The Equalizer should not have been made or that African American actors should not have been used (I personally think Denzel Washington is the best actor of his generation),” wrote the producer.

Ava took to Facebook to counter the notion that Black films can’t thrive in international markets.

“Black films can’t travel overseas.” That same old tired lie was proven wrong yet again tonight,” she wrote. “We enjoyed a gorgeous gala premiere of ‘SELMA’ at the Berlin Film Festival, complete with sold-out crowd and standing ovations. Over a thousand moviegoers gathered in that German venue, all focused on the work of unapologetic black artists. I’m jus’ sayin’. Onward! ‪#‎berlinale15.‬”

Despite being snubbed by the Academy, Ava and the cast of “Selma” recently took home the Image Award for “Outstanding Motion Picture.

Kevin hart was also in Dublin promoting his film “The Wedding Ringer.”
