Crooner Ruben Studdard says he’s still a big guy, but after losing 120 pounds on The Biggest Loser, he’s a smaller big guy these days. Fortunately, his voice is still the same size it was when he won American Idol in 2003. He’s also working with a crowdfunding project, Pledge Music, that will connect fans with artists and he’s performing on the 2015 Fantastic Voyage.
“This process that I’m doing is a new platform called Pledge Music. Artists get a chance to show fans how albums are made. It gives us a direct connect to our fans and it gives the fans direct access to what’s happening with us,” Studdard says.
Studdard says that his fans are pretty chill, but he does get a lot of wedding song requests.
“I can’t be at everybody’s wedding,” he says. But one of the perks you can receive by supporting Pledge Music is an at-home concert with Studdard, so if you plan a wedding – at your house – around that, he can make it happen.
Another perk, if you support, you can get Studdard’s new Christmas EP and your funds will go to the creation of Studdard’s next CD.
The Christmas EP At Christmastime is downloadable via Pledge Music and includes covers of “This Christmas” and “What The Lonely Do At Christmas.”
Studdard is looking forward to returning to the Fantastic Voyage, though he’s not as happy that Sybil has forced him on-air to bring his mother along. Studdard’s advice for first-time cruisers?
“Come ready to have a good time. I didn’t know what to expect the first time but it’s a party from start to finish. When I’m on stage I don’t even feel like I’m at work. I just feel like I’m in a room with people who want to get down with me.”
