If you don’t already have “The View” co-host Sherri Shepherd’s book Plan D: How To Lose Weight and Beat Diabetes (Even If You Don’t Have It) you might as well pick up a copy to start the New Year off right. The book is available in paperback tomorrow. As Shepherd has lost 20 more pounds after taking off 40 a while ago, it could be just what you need to jump-start your own weight loss.

“In my book, I really talked about the fact that we gotta take the fear out of diabetes,” Shepherd told the Tom Joyner Morning Show. “I talked about renovating your relationship with food. As funny as you can make diabetes look, my journey is pretty funny. It’s like ‘Diabetes for Dummies.’ It’s what you can do so that you don’t come on the side that I’m on. There are simple changes you can make and if you have diabetes you can manage it.”

Shepherd has been helped by celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito, who has helped her lose even more weight and inches by helping her identify and cook healthy meals.

“I’m feeling the best I’ve ever felt.” Shepherd says. “I break down what you can heat in very simple terms. I can hear Oreos from the garbage game calling my name. Nobody has ever broke up with their man and said I need a plate of steamed asparagus right now. But I teach you in my book how to love a plate of steamed asparagus and kale and water.”

The key to avoiding holiday weight gain, Shepherd says, is to eat before you go.
