(Washington, DC) — A newly released report finds that there are 236 structurally deficient bridges in the DC area. That works out to a bit more than five-percent of all spans in the region, well below the eleven-percent national average. Transportation for America Co-Chairman John Robert Smith says, using Federal Highway Administration standards to compile the information, nearly 13-percent of all bridges in the District itself are structurally deficient. Among the DC bridges that need a lot of work are the Arlington Memorial Bridge, the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge and the Key Bridge, all of which connect the District to Virginia.
