Ashanti is expecting her first child with Nelly.  This will be Nelly’s 5th child.  They couple are also engaged after rekindling their romance last year! The love birds broke the news of their engagement and pregnancy in an interview with Essence. During the interview, Ashanti said, “This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation. Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.” She also shared a video on her socials promoting her and Nelly’s company, Proov, an at-home pregnancy test. In the video, Ashanti is about to go onstage when someone asks her how much time she’s going to need to which she replied, “I’m a need about nine months.”

Hulu has dropped the official trailer for the new documentary film “Hip-Hop and the White House”.  It will stream next week on Hulu. It explores the impact of Hip-hop on presidential politics and policies from the 1970s to present day. It’s narrated by Atlanta’s Jeezy and includes interviews with Common, YG, U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, KRS-One, Roxanne Shante, Bun B, Bakari Kitwana, Farai Chideya, Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Curren$y, Dave “Davey D” Cook, Grandmaster Caz, Waka Flocka Flame, and Chika, among many others.

SZA for CR Fashion Book Issue 22

SZA will receive the Hal David Starlight Award at the 2024 Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards dinner.  It takes place June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. SZA will become the second Black woman to receive the honor, following Alicia Keys in 2005. SZA is a Grammy-winning artist with an award for best R&B song for “Snooze.”;  21 Savage is being honored by Time magazine as one of the most influential people of 2024. Burna Boy gave his thoughts on Savage’s impact over the past year saying, “I trust my gut when it comes to my music and collaborations, and I find myself naturally drawn to artists like 21 Savage,” Burna Boy wrote. “Those who remain grounded in their convictions and consistently defy the constraints imposed upon them. His approach to rap is refreshingly genuine; he speaks to us in a relatable way, effortlessly navigating the complexities of the genre. Whether he tackles weighty subjects or offers moments of levity, his delivery remains compelling.”
