Hall of Fame fighter Pernell Whitaker, who is known as one of the greatest boxers in history. Whitaker also know as Sweet Pea, was killed Sunday night in Virginia Beach by a car. He was 55. The Virginia Beach Police Department spokesman L.M. Bauder, made a statement saying, “When officers arrived on the scene, they located an adult male victim who had been hit by a vehicle. The victim succumbed to his injuries on scene.” 

The department gave details that confirmed his death, he was crossing a street at night and an a car struck and hit him, the driver stayed on the scene. Pernell was from Norfolk, Virginia and was titled the best defensive fighter, he also won world titles in four weight classes. Whitaker won a Silver Medal in 1982 World Boxing Boxing Championship, he won a Gold Medal in 1983 at the Pan-American Games, also won a Gold Medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics.
