In a deal reportedly for $70 million in exchange for an additional 24.5 percent of the OWN Network, Discovery Communications is now the majority owner of Oprah Winfrey’s network.
Winfrey’s OWN Network was founded by both her and Discovery in a joint venture, and this new deal now makes them 70 percent majority owners of the company. Winfrey will remain CEO and a minority investor in OWN so don’t think this means we won’t see her image on the channel anytime soon.
