A tipster led to the discovery of millions found in an empty apartment in Lagos, Nigeria. The country recently implemented a new whistle-blower policy in December where anyone who leaves an anonymous tip leading to a large sum of stolen public money can be rewarded 2.5-5% of the recovered funds.

It didn’t take long before $43 million is USD, 23.2 million naira (Nigerian Currency), and 27,800 pounds (British Currency) was confiscated. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission posted video of them counting the money that was found inside fireproof cabinets hidden behind wooden panels, according to the EFCC.

It’s possible the money is derived from one of many scams coming out of the region where emails are often sent from a “Nigerian royal figure” soliciting users to transfer thousands of dollars with the promise of a larger reward at the end. If so, it looks like this scam is one many Americans are willing to take a bet on.
