Philando Castile  took a gun safety course last year where he learned how to address the police before he was killed on July 6, Time reported.

After getting his permit to carry, the 32-year-old and his sister enrolled in a required the Total Defense class last May. The class taught civilians how to behave during encounters with law enforcement, how to comply with their demands, the proper way to hand over their gun permits and how to calmly answer any other questions, Time noted.

Sadly, taking the course did not prevent Castile from being shot and killed by St. Anthony police officer Jeronimo Yanez when he was in reaching to show law enforcement his permit to carry.

Black Lives Matter Protester Arrested On Camera While Giving Interview To Journalist

Sapphire Williams, a Black Lives Matter  protester in Rochester, NY, was arrested last week while speaking with a reporter. According to CNN, the 22-year-old was having drinks with friends when she noticed police surrounding a local BLM protest. She left the bar to join the protestors and speak to the crowd and the police.

After giving an “impassioned speech,” the recent college graduate was in the process of giving an interview with WCT News Rochester when “five heavily geared officers rushed into the shot and arrested her,” CNN noted. The entire arrest was caught on tape.

“I was completely taken aback by the onrush of officers and this very SWAT-like gear coming towards me out of nowhere,” Williams told CNN. “I was extremely alarmed. I had no idea what they were going to do to me, if they were about to tackle me to the ground.”

Williams was later charged with disorderly conduct. Her arraignment is set for July 26, the news site noted.

However, Williams hopes that her arrest will show how unjust the system. “Instances like mine caught on camera make people become aware and more empathetic to issues black Americans face, and generally people of color and with a socioeconomic status who don’t have a voice,” she said.

Former Vanderbilt Football Player Corey Batey Gets 15 Years For Raping Woman

A judge sentenced former Vanderbilt football player Corey Batey to 15 years in prison for raping an unconsious woman and videotaping the attack with three other teammates.

In April, Bates was convicted on charges of one count of aggravated rape, three counts of aggravated sexual battery, one count of facilitation of aggravated rape and two counts of attempted aggravated rape for the 2013 assault, WATE News reported.

Before hearing his sentence, Bates read a statement to the court, where he showed remorse and apologized to the survivor.

“I hope if not today, I hope one day you will find it in your heart to forgive me of any damages I may have caused. If I had the capability to rewind time and change the way things transpired, I would,” he read.

Bates is the first of four players involved to be sentenced. Brandon Vandenburg, who was found guilty, will be sentenced on Sept. 30, 2016, while Brandon Banks and Jaborian “Tip” McKenzie have yet to be tried.

Pakistani Social Media Star And Feminist Advocate Murdered In Honor Killing By Her Own Brother

Pakistani social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch, who was a staunch feminist activist, was murdered by her brother who has confessed to carrying out the honor killing.

According to the New York Times, the police said that during her sleep, Ms. Baloch was attacked on Friday night at her parents’ house. Her brother, Waseem Ahmed Azeem, was arrested late Saturday night in connection with her death and later has admitted to killing his sister. Baloch and Azeem were seen arguing that day over money issues and provocative photos she had posted, says Reuters.

“Apparently, it is an honor killing, but further investigations will reveal the real motives behind this murder,” Police spokeswoman Nabila Ghazanfar told the press.

Baloch, whose real name was Fauzia Azeem, was known for defying her country’s conservative culture. Despite the criticism she faced, she was incredibly popular with more than 700,000 followers on Facebook and at least 40,000 on Twitter.

One of her last Facebook posts truly embodied how she lived her life:  “I believe I am a modern day feminist. I believe in equality. I need not to choose what type of women should be. I don’t think there is any need to label ourselves just for sake of society. I am just a women with free thoughts free mindset and I LOVE THE WAY I AM.”

RIP Qandeel.
