A pair of Chicago twins are killing the college game right now–and inspiring others in the process.

According to the Huffington Post, Deprice and Shaprice Hunt have been accepted into nearly 60 colleges across the nation and have earned almost $1.6 million in scholarship money. Shaprice told the Huff Po that wants to attend either Illinois State University or Eastern Illinois University and double major in Education and Psychology, meanwhile her brother Deprice says his dream school is Morehouse College in Atlanta. Their goal was to make sure their mother never had to pay their tuition.

The two credit their family, teachers and counselors for believing in them and helping them succeed. They also want for people to know that being a Black teen in Chicago doesn’t have to mean being in a gang or something negative.

“A lot of people say you can’t do it because of where you’re from,” Deprice said. “Don’t listen to them.”

On Friday, the twins got a surprise on WGN-TV, when rapper Common in invited them to his foundation gala.

Congrats!

A South Carolina Sheriff running for office has come under fire for recent comment where the compared the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to the Ku Klux Klan, calling both groups as “racist.”

Sheriff Chuck Wright, who is running for his fourth term as sheriff in Spartanburg County, also said that “the most racist people in America right now sometimes are minorities,” says the local NBC station.

“I’ve got a chaplain who works for me. He’s an African-American, he is my brother and I love him more than anything.. He doesn’t buy into that mess. A bunch of his friends don’t either. They don’t do the NAACP because  I feel like that is a racist group as well as the KKK. I don’t care about them either. I don’t want to be a part of no group that’s got something to do just because of your color. I don’t think they’re right,” he said.

Um what?

Wright’s opponent, Russell Lynch, says these comments “are not conducive to solving those problems and addressing those issues and building those relationships with anybody, minorities included. These kind of comments are not conducive with that happening.  It’s an embarrassment to a law enforcement for a law enforcement professional to sum a group like the NAACP up as being a racist organization.”

Meanwhile, Wright says this is just “political bashing” and that he’s said nothing wrong.
