Emmy buzz has been surrounding Courtney B. Vance for his prolific portrayal of the late Johnnie Cochran in the FX mini-series, “American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson”. Now show creator Ryan Murphy is looking to Vance to make TV magic happen again with the next installment of “American Crime Story”.
The forthcoming season will focus on the natural disaster that impacted New Orleans and most of the southern region, Hurricane Katrina. When asked how he decided to focus on the 2005 storm, Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter,
“I want this show to be a socially conscious, socially aware examination of different types of crime around the world…And in my opinion, Katrina was a f—ing crime — a crime against a lot of people who didn’t have a strong voice and we’re going to treat it as a crime. That’s what this show is all about.”
While some people may have gotten a glimpse into life after Katrina via the HBO show “Treme”, producer and director Anthony Hemingway shared that he and Murphy’s project has a different vantage point.
“Treme was a different part of the story in that it highlighted the people of that city coming home and trying to revive life…American Crime Story will really focus on the beginning of that and the awful crime and tragedy that happened when it first started.”
According to E! News, Vance is confirmed to star in season two of the series and his “O.J” co-stars Sarah Paulson, Cuba Gooding Jr.,Sterling K. Brown and John Travolta have all expressed interest in returning.
Based on the strong and compelling performances the entire ensemble cast gave for season 1, we trust Murphy to make excellent casting decisions for season 2.
