While Donald Trump might be having the worst week ever, Bernie Sanders has had a better one, especially in New York City where he has had a slew of high-profile, star-studded rallies and events.
On Friday, Rosario Dawson, Spike Lee, Tessa Thompson, Michelle Alexander (author of The New Jim Crow) and many others gathered in Harlem for a roundtable to discuss a range of issues including health care and criminal justice, ABC 7 reported.

Creed actress Tessa Thompson and scholar Cornell West showed their support.
Actor and Civil Rights Icon Harry Belafonte and actress Susan Sarandon were in attendance as well.
On Thursday, more than 15,000 people gathered in the South Bronx for a Sanders rally hosted by his celeb supporters Rosario Dawson and Spike Lee. Dawson talked about her delight in being able to vote for someone instead of against someone, how Sanders walked with Dr. Martin Luther King and why hatred is such a huge part of Trump’s camp.
She also had some stern words for Hillary Clinton who recently accused Sanders of not caring about women’s rights because he said the media spent too much time talking about Trump’s recent abortion gaffe.
“Regardless of the fact that he’s always stood up for women’s rights, equal pay, equality, and is pro-choice — which the other Democratic candidate very well knows — there’s this rumor that because he’s saying we’re giving Trump too much time on the airwaves, and we need to stop feeding into that hate, and talking about the issues, that somehow that meant he doesn’t care about women’s issues,” she said.
Dawson concluded, “Shame on you, Hillary.”

Having high-profile celebs of color at events like these is a plus for Sanders, especially since the media has a tendency to create narratives that all of the Vermont Senator’s supporters are white and that all African-Americans and people of color lean toward Clinton, which just isn’t true, Dawson noted at the rally on Thursday as she pointed at the racial and gender diversity of the crowd.
Time will tell if celebrity endorsements and community events will be enough for Sanders to beat Clinton in her own state for the April 19 primary. Currently, certain polls show Clinton with a 12-point lead over Sanders in NY where there are a whopping 247 delegates up for grabs.
