Oprah Winfrey is on a diet again, and Weight Watchers is already gaining. Oprah, who is co-owner of The Oprah Winfrey Network is kicking in $43.2 million for a 10% share in the weight loss giant, and the shares of Weight Watchers have nearly doubled since the deal was announced. She bought 6.4 million shares at nearly $7.00 a share, and since Friday the shares have risen nearly 88%.
Diet is always going to be a topic of conversation in this country, and now with Oprah standing to gain (not weight, but money) and her considerable media influence, Weight Watchers International is gearing to reclaim a top spot in the weight loss industry.
