Stan Lee Welcomes Marvel's Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. Exhibition at Discovery Times Square

Marvel mastermind Stan Lee just let it slip that Marvel Studios is finally bringing a black hero center stage for their very own movie!

Yes, True Believers, there will be a Black Panther movie! The film has long been rumored, but whispers about it often got drowned out by promotion for other Marvel movies like “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

No official announcement has been made about the project, but that changed during Stan’s appearance at Fan Expo in Canada. It was reported on the latest episode of the “Fan Bros” podcast that he casually confirmed a Black Panther movie is in the works while answering a question about whether or not Black Widow will ever get her own film.

“We haven’t made a Black Widow movie, but she’s been in some of our movies, and she will be featured more prominently as we move forward” he said during a panel discussion. “The chances are that she will have her own movie because, eventually, all the superheroes will have their own movie.”

Pay attention, beauties because this where he confirmed that Marvel Studios is working on a project about the African king. “They’re already working on Ant-Man, Dr. Strange and the Black Panther movie, and there are others I’m not allowed to talk about,” said Stan.

This falls in line with what Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige said last year when he briefly spoke about the film during a press junket for “Thor: The Dark World.”

“In terms of Black Panther, it’s absolutely in development, and when you have something as rich as Wakanda and [Black Panther’s] backstory– and clearly, Vibranium’s been introduced in the universe already,” he stated, implying that there weren’t immediate plans for the project at that time. “I don’t know when it will be exactly but certainly we have plans to bring him to life someday.”

One of the most exciting things about a Black Panther movie is the possiblity that Storm might pop up. In his current story line, they were briefly married, making the X-Men member an African queen! Since this would be a Marvel Studios movie, producers wouldn’t necessarily need to cast Halle Berry for Storm per 20th Century Fox’s X-Men cannon. That means another actress may have a chance to play the weather witch.

In a perfect world either Chadwick Boseman or Lance Gross would be playing the Black Panther. If Storm’s going to be in the movie, I’m nominating Lupita Nyong’o or Nicole Beharie to play her right now!
