Lifetime (that fledgling black TV network that doesn’t call itself a black TV network) has announced a new docu-series (euphemism for “reality TV show”) titled “BAPs” which the network says will pull back the curtain on what the press release describes as an exclusive, privileged and affluent group of African American friends from St. Louis who self-identify as “BAPs” – Black American Princesses and Princes. Documentary on Black-Owned Detective Agency Run by Exonerated Men

They call themselves the Freedom Fighters, and have tasked themselves with the job of freeing those who are wrongly serving sentences in prison for crimes they didn’t commit. Selected from entries received from more than 50 countries to receive a total of $150,000 in grants, Jamie Meltzer’s character-driven documentary follows these change-makers as they rebuild their lives and families, learn to investigate cases, work to support each other, and campaign to fix the criminal justice system. The film will follow them as they learn the ropes of investigation – following leads, tracking down witnesses and finding out what kind of evidence will make a strong case in court – on their first cases. 33 U.S. Cities Have Restricted Feeding The Homeless In Past Year Alone

An upcoming National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH) report shows that municipal bans on publicly giving people free food has increased sharply between January 2013 and April 2014. The report, which has not yet been published, was shared with VICE News on Friday. It detailed new restrictions in 33 US cities that were passed during the past year alone. The report is set to be released later this month. Read more.

Gay Black Men’s Salaries Are on Par With Those of Straight White Men. Progress?

Princeton sociologist David Pedulla conducted a résumé test among hundreds of employers, supplying some résumés with names more likely to be stereotyped as those of white applicants, and others with names more likely to be identified as those of black applicants. On some résumés, Pedulla indicated that the applicant had participated in a Gay Student Advisory Council. Among all the fictional applicants, the one with the name that sounded like a black male (Darnell) who participated in the Gay Student Advisory Council was more likely to be considered for the same starting salary as that of a heterosexual white male. Those presumed to be white and gay and those presumed to be black and heterosexual were considered for lower salaries.
