So what prompted Seattle Mayor Edward Murray, who took office Jan. 1, to increase the minimum wage to $15?  Murray, a Democrat, and council member and socialist Tom Rasmussen won their November elections with the $15 minimum wage prominently on their agendas. The ordinance came from recommendations made by an advisory group of labor, business and nonprofit representatives convened by Murray.

“Seattle wants to stop the race to the bottom in wages and that we deplore the growth in income inequality and the widening gap between the rich and the poor,” Council member Tom Rasmussen said.

But what hasn’t been said about the wage increase, to whose detriment will it affect?
