President Obama turned biting comedian again this year for his speech at the 100th annual White House Correspondent’s Dinner where Hollywood meets Washington, D.C. in the so-called Nerd Prom. Media outlets like MSNBC, CBS, NPR, Politico, CNN and others add the Hollywood elite to their tables to add some star quality to the dinner.
This year’s guests included actress Lupita Nyong’o, seven members of the Scandal cast (but not recently fired Columbus Short or new mother Kerry Washington), Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, comedian Kevin Hart and model/actress Claudia Jordan.
In one of his best jokes the President skewered Majority Leader John Boehner for his over tanned skin.
“These days, House Republicans are giving [Speaker John Boehner] a harder time than they give me – which means orange really is the new black,” the president joked.
As someone who he said never has to run another reelection campaign, Obama aimed squarely at several likely 2016 prospect including New Jersey governor Chris Christie, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
But host Joel McHale of The Soup and Community was the night’s (and maybe the most in the history or the event) snarkiest jokester, taking several pointed shots at politicians, particularly Christie, whose administration ordered the closing of two lanes on the nation’s most traveled commuter route the George Washington Bridge, supposedly in retaliation for the actions of a political rival.
