On Friday, August 17, DC Commission On The Arts And Humanities sponsored an art exhibition called Go-Go Swing: Washington DC’s Unstoppable Beat. The event, currated by Zoma Wallace, depicted the untold story of DC’s indigenous music via photography, paintings, mixed media art, and memorobilia including Chuck Brown’s Gibson guitar. The event was hosted by DC natives Anwar Glover (“Big G”) of Back Yard Band and April Watts of Majic 102.3. Performances by Black Alley Band, Demont Pinder, and legendary Rare Essence, were slated. However, the event was cut short when pieces of the ceiling caved in during Black Alley’s performance. Apparently, the vibrations of the beat were too much for the stucco of the ceiling to handle. No one was hurt during the mishap. This is concrete evidence that the Go-Go beat truly is unstoppable! View photos from the event below.
