Actor Robbie Jones has been working since he hung up his hoop dreams seven years ago. And in a weird way, he may have talk show hostess Wendy Williams to thank for his career upsurge. Jones started out doing commercials and during an appearance on “The Wendy Williams Show” he was teased for his role in a Hot Pockets commercial.

“She laid into me pretty hard for this Hot Pockets commercial I did,” Jones told the Tom Joyner Morning Show. “She let me have it, it was hilarious. She played it over and over again, made me look kind of goofy in front of the ladies, but its OK. But we have to start somewhere. After that I booked that “One Tree Hill” role. And that really just kind of got it started for me. It’s been a blessing. It happened really fast for me. So I’m excited about the future.”

Jones appeared on the short-lived “Hellcats” as well as “90210: The Final Season” and “Necessary Roughness.” He also played the tough but tender basketball player in “Hurricane Season” with Forest Whitaker a few years back. But Jones’s biggest role to date has been as Internet mogul Harley in “Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor” now out on DVD. In it, he plays an alluring but ultimately sinister businessman who seduces Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s character into an adulterous affair with unexpected consequences.

Although acting is his first love, the 6’3 actor did play basketball for UC Berkley at one time.

“I went to UC Berkeley and played basketball there and then I played overseas for a while and just kind of fell into the acting thing. I was surprised it’s a lot of guys out here that can hoop a little bit. I still dabble. I can get out there and light it up with the best of them. I still have fun with the game.”
