Historic activist and politician, Nelson Mandela was admitted to an “undisclosed hospital” last night according to the Atlanta Black Star.

The former and first black President of South Africa is currently being treated for a lung infection. Mandela has been in and out of the hospital dating back to 2011. Mandela, who is 94, contracted tuberculosis during his imprisonment beginning in 1962.

Most recently, Mandela was admitted in December for treatment of a persisting lung infection and gallstones. He was then readmitted in February to investigate a stomach problem. Although Mandela’s spokesman Mac Maharaj assures that Mandela is alert and “conscious”, he is asking for the people of South Africa to send their prayers and offer the medical team privacy so they can do their jobs and ensure Mandela’s recovery.
