Oby was born in Nigeria, West Africa and graduated in 1987 from the University of Nigeria with a BA in Dramatic Arts and, in 2000, with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Marketing, from the same university. She immigrated to the United States in 2003 to pursue a nursing career, which was influenced by her experience during church outreaches with people living with HIV. She graduated in 2010 with a BSN from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Oby has over four years experience in Case Management working with Special population and adolescents with anti-social behaviors (for home-health organizations in both North Carolina and Maryland) . Oby served with the Whitman-Walker Gay Mens’ Health and Wellness Clinic during her Community Health rotation in summer of 2010 and then joined the Medical Adherence staff full time upon graduation.

With the love she has for the work that she does, it is clear that Oby has changed lives. She has helped some to reach various personal goals, bring people of color back into care, work with them on how to take their medication and be compliance with their doctor appointments, and so much more. So many that she works with are either ill or have an ill relative, and Oby continues to show unwavering love, unconditional support, and genuine care to all who are suffering. Oby is a Phenomenal Women to so many at Whitman Walker and to all those that she interacts with.

Congratulations to Oby, April’s Phenomenal Woman!
