Nearly one-third of the people in the United States who have been reported missing are African-Americans, although Blacks are only about 12 percent of the nation’s population, according to Wonya Lucas, president and CEO of TV One in a network press release.

To improve the media coverage about Blacks who are missing, the network is launching a new 10-episode television series beginning 10 p.m. Jan. 18.

With award-winning actress S. Epatha Merkerson—known for her 16-year portrayal of New York Police Department Detective Lt. Anita Van Buren—as host, TV One’s Find Our Missing will feature, in each episode, the stories of two missing persons of color.

The show will tell, in the words of the people who knew them best and loved them the most, the stories of the missing.
