Congratulations to Tonya Sherman: The Majic Phenomenal Woman of the Month for January 2012.

Each Month Majic 102.3 honors local women who are making positive strides in our community.

Tonya Sherman is a social influence who goes beyond the call of duty to promote the importance of education. She is currently the Extended Day Coordinator for the National Center for Children and Families. She has amazing leadership qualities that she uses to plan and implement innovative activities for youth empowerment and education. Not only that, she has taken in families as her own.

Although a mother of two, she has taken in several young children (now adults) and has helped them obtain jobs, get into college (pay college application fees, prepare for SATs), and has even provided them with a place to call home. In doing so, she has implemented in them life skills and made them better citizens.  She owns Sankofa Dance Theater in Savannah, Georgia, and she has also directed an end of summer camp performance at Smothers Elementary School in Washington, DC.  The children in this camp range from ages K-5th grade and the performance highlighted the history and heritage of African Americans.  In addition to all these great things, a few years ago Tonya even co-authored a book titled “Girlfriend’s Code of Ethics.”  Her accomplishments are vast and are admirable!

Her colleagues have named her Tonya “Make it Happen” Sherman, because she gets the job done.  Phenomenal woman beyond belief; she is truly a gift from God!
