(Upper Marlboro, MD)  —  Beginning this fall, students in Prince George’s County Public Schools will have to pay 50 dollars to play afterschool sports.  The new fees were announced yesterday with the school system saying it’s the only way to ensure the programs continue in the wake of budget cuts.  The 50-dollar fee will be charged once per athlete per school year, whether they play varsity or junior varsity sports.  The “Post” reports families unable to afford the 50-dollar fee will be able to request either a modified payment plan or a waiver on the fee.  The county expects the fees to add about 300-thousand dollars to the budget.
