DC Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton is weighing in on Metro’s newly implemented random bag checks.  Norton, who is a member of the Homeland Security Committee, believes that while the screenings are perfectly reasonable, ultimately they are ineffective in catching would-be terrorists.  Speaking with TBD News, Norton says in light of the threats that have come to Metro in recent months and the random nature of the search, it’s hard to come up with a reason why they shouldn’t do more than they’re doing now.  She says she understands there’s a real threat out there and doesn’t see any alternative to what the transit system is doing.  As for whether the checks will work, Norton says she has no reason to believe they will be effective in catching a terrorist.  The delegate says their only purpose is to make someone who may have bad intentions think they might get caught.
