The legendary Chuck Brown was one of the most influential musicians that D.C. has ever seen. So much so that Tiki Bennet, a resident of Alexandria, Va., started an online petition to request that his birthday be declared “Chuck Brown Day” and that a museum be built to recognize go-go music named after him.
Brown already has a street in front of the Howard Theatre named after him, and Mayor Vincent Gray has approved commemorative resolutions recognizing important D.C. figures in the past.
The petition currently has a little under 3,000 signatures. Bennet’s goal is to reach 10,000 signatures before his funeral on Tuesday.
