I was out of town when I was inundated with all kinds of social media notifications, text messages, and phone calls about the untimely death of a DC icon. I couldn’t believe it was about the passing of beloved DC broadcaster Jim Vance. Ladies and Gentlemen we lost a family member!
Most of us didn’t know him or his kin personally but yet he was family who was welcomed in our home for over 40 years. He was an icon whose smooth delivery of the news was the epitome of COOL. Who can forget the hilarious banter between Vance and legendary sportscaster George Michael? These are memories that will forever be etched in the fabric of the DMV.
The DMV is not short of icons however, we are short of “legendary” icons. Jim Vance, bar none, was a Legendary icon in this region. Add him to the collective of broadcasting legends, two of which grace the air waves of Majic 102.3/92.7.
In these difficult times, we need a “Jim Vance” to deliver news, information, and commentary straight with no chaser. He had a way of making all of us feel like everything is going to be alright. Rest in Paradise, Mr Vance!
