Singer and activist Janelle Monáe is calling for an end to gun violence after her cousin was killed in a drive-by shooting early Tuesday morning.

Natasha Hays was asleep in her Kansas City home when an unidentified perpetrator sprayed bullets as they drove passed her house. Her kids, ages 14,16, and 18 were not wounded, according to New York Daily News.

The founder of Wondaland Records expressed her grief on Twitter:

Janelle, 30, has consistently been vocal about police brutality and gun violence, frequently championing causes like #SayHerName and creating music that reflects the spirit of the movement. It’s clear the eclectic star will continue her fight despite her heartache.

This tragedy comes amid the deaths of other family members of high-profile celebrities, including singer T-Pain‘s niece and NBA star Dwyane Wade‘s cousin.

Our thoughts and prayers are with these families.
