Three Killed, Seven Injured In Movie Theater Shooting In Lafayette

Just three days after Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal penned a letter to President Barack Obama urging him to “pause the process of [Syrian] refugees coming to the United States” following the Daesh-led terrorist attacks on Paris, the low-polling GOP presidential hopeful has announced that he is no longer seeking the 2016 Republican nomination, Reuters reports.

Saying “this is not my time,” Jindal suggested that the “crazy” election season was behind the tepid interest in his campaign and urged the Republican Party to start taking itself seriously.

“We spent a lot of time developing detailed policy papers, and given this crazy, unpredictable election season, clearly there just wasn’t a lot of interest,” Jindal said on Fox News after announcing his exit from the race.

“I think the Republican Party has to lay out the pathway why we are the party for opportunity and growth.

Jindal, once considered the GOP’s minority, golden boy, even delivering the Republican response to President Obama’s first State of the Union address in 2009, received a dismal 0.8 percent of support in a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll.

He has, in many quarters, been viewed as unelectable since that awkward rebuttal, a fate that did not befall his fellow GOP presidential contender Marco “Thirsty” Rubio (Fla.) after his hilarious turn at the mic following President Obama’s 2013 State of the Union address.

Still, Jindal seems committed to pushing his message of American exceptionalism and xenophobia to the masses, saying: “Now is the time for all those Americans who still believe in freedom and American exceptionalism to stand up and defend it. The idea of America – the idea that my parents came here for almost a half a century ago – that idea is slipping away from us. Freedom is under assault from both outside our borders and from within. We must act now, we do not have a moment to spare.”

According to Reuters, Jindal has declined to endorse any of his fellow Republican presidential hopefuls, including New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Dr. Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina, Senator Ted Cruz (Texas), and Donald Trump; instead he will tow the party line and support the eventual nominee.
