boy beat on facebook

A boy’s mother and two others were all arraigned Tuesday, in Flint, Mich., on child abuse charges for the beating of her 11-year-old son that was captured on video and posted to Facebook, according to NBC News.

The mother of the child, Demitria Latrion Powell, 28, Uteas Michelle Taylor, 42, and Stefon Tirrell Felton, 40, were charged with 3rd degree child abuse, conspiracy to commit child abuse in the 3rd degree, and 3rd degree child abuse committed in the presence of another child.

In the six-minute clip, the child is struck across the face, then beaten with a belt about his torso over 50 times. Powell, Taylor, Felton and an infant we’re in the room at the time of the beating. The child is accused of making statements on his Facebook page that are not true, reprimanded for acting like a “thug” and warned to stay away from gangs.

According to Genesee County prosecutors, Felton, who shot the video, mentions in the clip that he was imprisoned for ten years. Taylor is the boy’s godmother and Felton is her boyfriend.

As the brutal whipping begins, Powell is overheard saying, “Watch this ass whipping this gangster is going to get.” The mom then beats the boy as he firmly clutches onto the arms of a chair. Prosecutors maintain that the beatings went beyond what is considered reasonable disciplining of a child and spills over into criminal assault.

At the end of the disturbing video, the boy is seen squirming in pain. Flint police were summoned after getting complaints from people who saw the video making rounds on Facebook.

The boy and infant were placed in child protective custody. Meanwhile, Powell is being held in jail on $7,500 bond; Taylor and Felton’s bonds were set at $8,500 each.
