I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’m never going to stop celebrating Black boys doing amazing things. Today I’m celebrating 17-year-old Oakland high school senior, Akintunde Ahmad. This impressive teen scored a staggering 5.0 GPA and a 2100 SAT score, both of which I never knew you could even get. These amazing scores have granted Ahmad access to prestigious schools like Yale, Brown, Columbia, Northwestern, the University of Southern California, UCLA, Howard and Chapman (and that’s not even all), although he has his sights set on Yale and Brown.

Take that Washington Post writer (who shall remain nameless) who thought that we should stop talking about the other young Black man, Kwasi Enin, who was accepted to eight Ivy League schools. Ahmad’s list of schools was so long, the reporter in the video above joked that she couldn’t fit them all within his segment. And Ahmad’s talents go far beyond just the books; he plays three instruments and is a great baseball player. According to KGO-TV, Yale is talking to him about possibly joining its baseball team.

Ahmad credits Oakland public schools for his education and says, “Like, my whole life, people have been telling me to stay on this path and everything will fall, the cards will fall like you want them to.”

It’s amazing to see where Ahmad’s cards fall. My wish is that every young Black boy could see someone like Ahmad and realize that if they too apply themselves, the possibilities they could create would be endless. Life has more to offer young Black men then death, incarceration or a failed rap career.
