Evan is an amazing 26-year-old husband and father. His wife Cameran died on August 9, 2013 after a 5 year battle with cancer. Evan is now caring for their 4-year-old daughter Orion. Below is a letter his wife wrote about Evan and posted on her blog ‘Stilettos and Cancer”. It is a clear picture of the kind of man Evan is. Amazing!!
“…I truly believe that god in his infinite wisdom knew who and what I needed before I did and created Evan specifically for the needs that I didn’t know I had. I was not built to handle the stresses of cancer but he was.
He stood beside me as each doctor misdiagnosed and treated my disease. When my skin was on fire and the only option that I could see was to scratch it until it bled, he held my hands and prevented me from hurting myself. He created ice packs and numbed my body and then held me through the cold night so I could sleep.
The doctor called me and said, “Your biopsy came back positive for a form of lymphoma; his eyes told me that it was going to be okay. I couldn’t have imagined the type of man that knowingly at 20-years-old makes a decision to care for a woman forever. He showed me that he existed. He proposed. I cried. I said yes. He took me to get a snow cone after.
Doctors said I should start chemo therapy, he wiped my tears and held me until the pain was numbed by his love. They said that if I my unborn child didn’t move naturally in twenty minutes then surgery would be required. He bent over and spoke to my contracting womb and said, “Hey, this is daddy. You can come out. I’m going to take care of you. She listened 20 minutes later she came to see the man that gave her the strength to live.
On the worse days, I don’t have to speak. He says, “Want a hug?”
Love is too much of an understatement. I breathe him. I live him. I thank him…”
Tom, Evan’s wife lost her battle this summer. God has blessed him to buy a house for him and his 4-year-old daughter. He is in the process of repairing and renovating the home for them. I think a gift card to Home Depot to help with this process would help a lot.
