Ashley Davis (pictured) has been growing her dreadlocks for over 10 years and was taken aback when her St. Peters, Mo. finance company employer advised her to cut them off because they were in violation of a new corporate policy. Davis has until Friday to decide if she wants to remain with the company by cutting off her dreads, or lose her job by not abiding to their new mandates with regards to grooming, according to Fox 2.

Davis was hired by Tower Loan back in July and at the time, she was sporting her strawberry blond dreads.  Suddenly, two months later, on September 21, the cheery employee was informed of some newly instituted policies with regards to personal grooming. Tower Loan mandates that employees not sport dreadlocks, braids, mohawks, mullets, and other hairstyles that are against their guidelines.

According to Davis, she is the only employee at the firm with dreadlocks.

Will Davis chop off her locks, which she says, are a part of her culture and identity?

The 24-year-old woman tells Fox 2, “My worst nightmare is I wake up and all of my hair is gone. As far as cutting it goes, no way, it’s like cutting me open, I can’t do it,” said Davis.

Tower Loan, on the other hand seems to be sticking to their guns, and despite the unwanted publicity being generated by the Davis’ situation, they don’t seem to be buckling. A rep for the finance institution told Fox 2, “Tower Loan does not comment on individual personnel matters. However, Tower has an appearance policy that is clearly defined in its training manual. Tower believes a professional appearance is necessary for the success of the company.”

Meanwhile, Davis is keeping her fingers crossed that her employer, well, at least for now, will have a change of heart with regards to her beloved dreads. “My dreads, I love them and I’m going to keep them. My hair is a part of me and it makes me the professional and bubbly person I am.” she told Fox 2.
