Largo, MD — The Redevelopment Authority of Prince George’s County recently awarded two more Community Impact Grants (CIG) to community-based organizations to help implement innovative projects in the County.

One grant, in the amount of $33,000, was awarded to the University System of Maryland for its Growing Gardens in Prince George’s County:  Creating an Intergeneration Training Ground for Small-Scale, Sustainable Agriculture project.  University System of Maryland Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-profit enterprise located in Riverdale, MD, whose mission is to support Maryland’s agricultural industry; protect its valuable natural resources; enhance the wellbeing of individuals and families, both young and old; and foster the development of strong, stable communities.

Another grant, in the amount of $45,200, was awarded to the Gateway Community Development Corporation (CDC) for a capital improvement project that will assist in the rehabilitation and conversion a portion of an ez-Storage facility into new artist studios.  The Gateway CDC promotes economic revitalization along the U.S. Route 1 Corridor through business and neighborhood development initiatives including promotion of the arts as a community building strategy.

Community Impact Grants must be used for capital purposes such as the purchase of equipment and materials and cannot be used for operations, salaries or personnel. Proposed projects must fall into one of two categories: Neighborhood Beautification or Environment or Natural Resources and Sustainability. Grants can only be used for capital expenses related to the implementation of a community based project.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until such time the grant funds have all been spent.   Currently, there is $55,690 remaining in the CIG budget for future awards.
