An executive director was fatally shot last night in Monument, Colo. in front of his own home in. Tom Clements, who served as the Executive Director of the Department of Corrections in Colorado for only two years was killed after answering a ring at his door.

Clements was at home with his wife at the time of the murder. Emergency response administered CPR upon their arrival to no avail and Clements died at the scene. The mysterious killing is under investigation. The motive of the killer was is unknown and no suspects have yet to be identified. Authorities are suspicious yet unsure if the killing is linked to Clements’ position with the department.

According to the Huffington Post, the shooting was preceded by a denial from Clements to allow a “Saudi national” to complete his sentence in the Middle East.

The irony however is that the shooting comes prior to the Governor, John Hickenlooper’s address regarding gun control. The situation, in a political sense, is complicated to say the least. The only authorities have thus far is a description of a suspicious car reported by neighbors.

With the recent deaths including that of six month old Jonylah Watkins and the arrest of a 17-year-old in Virginia for coming to school armed with a gun, it seems as if gun control is taking a turn for the worse. Do you think the new gun control policies are effective? Do you think the government both locally and nationally are doing enough to protect us?
