Last night, the 2nd Annual DC Shine A Light On Lung Cancer Vigil was held at Emory Fellowship Church in Northwest, Washington.  The lung cancer awareness event is part of a national effort by Lung Cancer Alliance to bring comfort to bring a message of hope, courage, and a call to action for better policies and outcomes for those at risk for the disease, survivors, and the families that are affected by the illnes.  The DC vigil was one of more than 100 vigils that took place across the United States and abroad (including Australia and Afghanistan).  The DC vigil was organized by Sonia Salmon-Gayle of the Cinderella Cares Foundation and April Watts of Majic 102.3. Both women lost their mothers (April also lost her grandmother) to the lung cancer.

Lung cancer is the biggest cancer killer in the world.  It kills more people than breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon caner and pancreatic cancer combined.  Yet, it is the least funded of all the major cancers.  The majority of people that develop lung cancer either never smoked or quit smoking decades ago.  For more information about lung cancer, please visit http://lungcanceralliance.org.

Enjoy the photos from the DC Shine A Light On Lung Cancer Vigil.  It was powerful, informative and heartfelt.
