WASHINGTON, DC – The NAACP DC Branch supports the March for Justice for Trayvon Martin led by School Without Walls students on Tuesday, March 27, 2012.  This march will begin at 12 Noon at School Without Walls Senior High School located at 2130 G Street, NW Washington, DC.  The march will lead up 22nd Street to Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House.

The NAACP DC Branch and School Without Walls students demand the arrest, prosecution and conviction of George Zimmerman for the murder of Trayvon Martin.  Trayvon Martin was an unarmed 17-year-old African American student, confronted, shot, and killed on February 26, 2012 near his Sanford, FL home by George Zimmerman.  Mr. Zimmerman has not been charged with a crime, because police essentially placed the burden of proof on a murdered teenager, instead of a known vigilante with a criminal history.

Akosua Tyus, NAACP DC Branch President, is an alumnus of School Without Walls (SWW).  SWW students, SWW alumni, George Washington University students, Howard University students, and NAACP members will join to demand justice for Trayvon Martin.

President Tyus says, “The proud philosophy of School Without Walls is that learning has no limits.  This march is a youth lead effort to demand justice for an egregious act.  The passion of these students is leading the civil rights movement of our time and defines social justice for this generation.”
