A number of myths come to mind when we think of adoption.

Whether it is the idea that kids coming from foster care are more difficult to raise, or that they’ll have resentment towards their new parents when they get older, these beliefs and others often deter individuals and couples from exploring adoption as an option over having a baby.

When it comes to adopting Black children, racial stereotypes compound these already common beliefs.

The Atlanta Post reports:

At any given moment there are 500,000 children in foster care across the United States with 26% being African American according to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2010 statistics.
